Miaoli, Mele Hula Campsite 音樂之舞營地

great view
Location: google map
Pros: great view of the lake, relatively easy to get to compare to some other campsites. cabin available for booking.
Cons: mosquitos

We went at the end of May so the weather was already warming up. Also because this place is right by the lake, we got eaten up by mosquitos...!!! With that being said, it is still a pretty good campsite with a gorgeous view. You have one sink, several outlets, and a cabin with a decent shower/bathroom inside. This may be a good choice when the weather is cool.

Miaoli, Shang Shun World 尚順育樂世界

coffee cup

go cart

2-story carousel

sega arcade

playground
Website: http://www.ss-plaza.com.tw
Location: google map
Pros: good for rainy days, LOTS of options, food court & restaurants on site
Cons: can be a bit overwhelming, or your kids might not want to leave. Be prepared!!

Shang Shun Plaza combines a hotel, a shopping mall, a giant indoor play facility and food/restaurnts all into one place! The rides ranges from $50~$250/each, and you pay with EASYCARD. Here is the floor guide: http://www.ss-plaza.com.tw/about-game.php
There are height restrictions on most games, so make sure you check that first. my 4 yr old could ride most of them, but he had to sit out for bumper cars and go cart. Over all it will probably take more than one visit to play all of the things that they offer here!!

Miaoli, Four Ways Farm 四方牧場

Very industrial looking

where you buy tickets during the week. (there's a gift shop and a few video games)

the only activity available

THERE IS NOTHING!!!

Hours: M-F 9:00-18:00, Sat/Sun 8:00-18:00
Pros: feeding baby cows, camping grounds, picnic tables with large grassy area
Cons: looks old and run-down, nothing to do during the week.

Tickets are NT$60 for ages 3 and up, so it's relatively inexpensive. The ticket includes a snack (choose from a bottle of milk or a milk custard). We went on a Thursday morning around 10am, and I think by 10:30 we were ready to leave. The long slide you've read about on some blog? It's been closed since 2014 (I should've checked the date). Other than feeding the baby cows ($20 for a bottle), there was NOTHING to do. And I have to say, the feeding area could definitely use some cleaning. Yes, there are two huge grassy areas and picnic tables that are great for letting the kids go wild, but you wouldn't really drive all the way to Miaoli just for that. Maybe it is more fun on the weekends if there are more kids around??? I'd say, buy the milk at Oranger Mart, you can skip this place.

Miaoli, Shangrila Paradise 香格里拉樂園

(I apologize for the weird picture layout. I'm not sure how to fix it ;(...)

I'm not sure what happened to the "M"in Miaoli...and FN??
Entrance

Price: $500/adult, $280/children between 3-12, FREE for children under 3 (might be able to find cheaper tickets on external sites)
Pros: big open spaces, clean, inexpensive
Cons: rides and attractions are pretty old.

We got tickets from Gomaji for $249/person, so for our family of 5 it was $1245. For this price, I'd definitely recommend coming here to try it out! We followed the google map direction and got here no problem, it was easy to find. I love that it's sort of in the mountains, so you definitely get that out-of-the-city feel. (Make sure to bring mosquito repellent!!)

Restrooms- they are located everywhere - they are clean, and with toilet paper!! That's sort of rare here in Taiwan, so bonus points there.

Food - No restriction on bring outside food, and it's actually a great place for a picnic. There is a restaurant right when you walk through the entrance hall, but we didn't eat there so I'm not sure about the quality. There is also three snack bars located in the park: one by the basketball court, one by the net playground, and one in the Hakka building. By the look of them, I would recommend going to the one by the playground since it looked the cleanest. I ordered a coffee from there and it was pretty good.

Rides: 1.Spinning around thing (looks extremely old and we didn't want to risk our lives)
           2. Merry-go-around (creaky, slow, and old...but my 4 yr old rode on it 3 times)
           3. Bumper cars (old, foam was exposed on the seats. miraculously it works)
           4. Clowns on clouds (medium paced & relaxing....other than the fact that it's clowns on clouds)
           5. Bumper boats (BEST attraction in this park, we can do this all day)
           6. Blizzard (looks questionable...but hubby took the older two to try it before I could object)
           7. Train (slow, but my 4&6 yr olds liked it)

"net playground"
some kind of rocket ship looking thing that you can climb in

I was totally pleasantly surprised by this snack bar.

Price is decent and they have a legit coffee machine!

clowns on clouds....straight out of a horror movie
creepy snow white and dwarfs

ride at your own risk
Hakka structure, you can feed the fish nearby

Zhunan, Zhunan Sports Park 竹南運動公園

Location: google map locationNo. 55, Gongyuan Rd, Zhunan Township, Miaoli County, 351
Parking: Off of 13, next to the library
Pros: playgrounds, swings, big grassy field, big hard surface area for riding bikes, basketball court, tennis court.....it's a park for EVERYTHING! They have restrooms on site (not very clean).
Cons: Not much to do around the park. You will have to drive to get to a restaurant.

We were first here for our boys' soccer game. It is actually a great destination if you plan to visit Zhunan. I would maybe come here in the morning, and go by the harbor for lunch (great seafood). There is a Family Mart that's walkable from the park if you need drinks/snacks. Sometimes there is a vendor in front of the park entrance that sells traditional Taiwanese ice cream called "Baboo." (It's hard to find Baboo these days!)
